Are those drinks available in uk or are there equivalents. With an ileostomy 3 hour throughput I have been advised to keep barley sugar with me to combat dryness prior to weakness.

There are worldwide equivalents ... so long as the concentrate you use contains sugar, then you are ok.
I'm not sure where in the world you are, but here in the UK, buying squash with sugar is pretty difficult so I always add some granulated into the drink and ensure it is thoroughly mixed.
Hello NaomiSugar is glucose - it (and salt) helps incourage fluid to pass into the gut rather than pass straight into your stoma bag.
So, I'm afraid your stoma nurse was correct, and the dietician wrong!!
Only use a teaspoon though ... don't go mad else your be piling the pounds on!
